Today was fun, after a hard workout at the gym I came home and got myself prettied to film an Army commercial for our television network. It was with our FRG and it was one of those silly "We miss you, we love you!" type group messages that they play for the boys downrange but it was a zoo in there with all the wives and all the kids and I got a kick out of it. TOTALLY loved Supernatural and I'm pumped for Heroes tonight, I'm giving it one more chance. Sigh, why can't it be November 4th already so I can give away my election stress... The best part of Army life is the girlfriends. I realize today is Thursday but we had our weekly Friday night dinner (since one can't make it tomorrow) We made fried chicken... burnt it a little but a decent first attempt. Only in an Army life though does your guests end up in the kitchen cooking dinner when the hostess gets an instant message request from her husband downrange. It's SO normal for us to revolve around instant messenger like that. It was adorable today as they were cooking and I chatted with Casey for a few minutes that my friend's little girl ran over and climbed up into my lap, waved and waved into the webcam, talking away and blowing kisses. This little girl's life is mostly seen through a webcam by these guys but she's flexible. To her that was a great visit with Uncle Casey. He loved seeing her too. He also loved his birthday present and the 'pictures' I sent that he got today. I guess it's time to send another box already, I'm soooo doing a Halloween party in a box for those boys for October! Another thing I realized today that might be strange to those outside this world is the traffic. How many civilians get to stop on one short stretch of road twice for 1: a TANK crossing, and 2: a convoy of Australian soldiers in full battle rattle, machine gun mounts and other vehicle weapons visable, that wave to us 'wives' like they're on their way to church. Since I live on a training post I hear fake IED explosions, gun-fire, and airforce strikes nearly every hour of every day. You learn to tune it out which is strange all on it's own I guess. I love my kitty!! I have never had a cat, never been a real cat person but he makes me laugh every single day. He is so darn cute with his silly poodle cut right now and he's so affectionate, a nice warm body that loves to snuggle. I have so much energy this week since I got him, I think having a living thing to sleep with is helping me get deep rest, even if it's not my husband. I guess a cat is a better substitute than a boyfriend! Casey I'm sure agrees, lol. The best part specifically about tonight (even though I'm ashamed to admit it) is that after all the ladies leave I get to finish off the bottle of white wine we opened at dinner. Since we have practically no 'nightlife' while our soldiers are deployed this is it. I'll enjoy my wine, put on a good movie or open a new book and then be in bed nice and early to enjoy my buzz through dreams. Sometimes I have a drinking partner and we will stay up late and chat into the night about our guys but often times it's just me, my one wine night a week. Okay until next time, I'll try to keep this up! MySpace : posted by Sarah on 12:26 PM

So this deployment is FLYING by. I can't believe it's the middle of September already, my husbands birthday was this week, only the second major day we've missed so far this trip downrange (our anniversary being the first). We still have Halloween, Thanksgiving, my birthday, Christmas and New Years to worry about but I'm hoping he'll be home for Valentine's Day! It's like a crazy alt-world repeat of 2 years ago, hubby's deployed to the same place for near about the same time, maybe we'll actually get to celebrate V-day this year without the Army calling us back to work in a mad 8 hour drive scramble. Then we'll have about 3 or 4 months left in Germany before we ETS back to the states! I can't wait until we can start our life there... although I'm so scared of what it might be like. We're going to try for a baby when he gets back so I'll be pretty out there when it's time to move, Casey gets to have a certain amount of time separation from the Army so he'll at least be home to do the heavy lifting. For now though I mostly work at home, trying to start up a business with my old love of graphic design and get into digital scrapbooking for customers. Army wives love that stuff. I also got a cat to snuggle with at night and to get my sorry butt out of bed on the days I just don't feel like it. I have gotten into the show Army Wives and it's a great mix of awesome with awful. Haha. It's hard to explain but so much of the show is RIGHT on target, nearly each episode has me in tears, but it's also laughable how many mistakes they make and how inaccurate it can be. I guess they have to make it dramatic but if Army Wives was a direct reflection of my life, I'd have been locked up in the loony bin. They're real pretty though, and some of it is so accurate it just hits you square in the face. For those of you that have seen it, my life most closely represents Claudia Joy. Alpha-dog husband, etiquette-responsible, social butterfly/hotess extrodinaire! I usually host a girls lunch/evening once a week and my house is the central gathering spot for drop-ins. That part of the Army life I love. If it wasn't for our girls we'd probably all just stay in bed. As it is now we rotate Friday night dinners, go for runs M, W, F mornings, bitch and talk to each other throughout the day on Yahoo while we wait for our husbands and drop in whenever we run by the PX or commissary, at either end of post. We all have bottles of fruity white wine to be tapped whenever the need and we're all Aunty to each other's kids (except I don't have my own yet) meaning they could be dropped off at a moments notice when it's just too much for someone. It's been a hard deployment on the company, we've had one casualty and 4 other serious injuries including our CO. 3 seperate incidents. My husband was with the young soldier that was killed just a few weeks ago so that has hit us hard but we're doing alright. Hubby's doing alright. I am planning an extended trip to Japan for November, I think some of the other wives may be headed to Spain early in October and I'll probably join them too. No sense waiting here the whole time, things should be slowing down in the sandbox by then and we'll all feel more comfortable being out of touch for a few days. I also stalk political boards and argue/debate a good portion of my evening, this is the most exciting election in a while and I love learning as much as I can and getting involved with debates. I take online Spanish lessons certain nights I feel focused so I feel I'm not just being a useless webcam prop for the guy downrange. Like I said, it's been a busy deployment and I can hardly believe how fast it's going, I just hope the momentum continues through the winter. Last but not least, I just have to say.... I love pizza! I love pizza so damn much I can never NOT eat it right out of the oven and I always burn holes in my tongue. This is what I'm dealing with at the moment. Grrr. Pray for our troops and Charlie Company 1-4 specifically tonight! Labels: rl:army, tv:army wives MySpace : posted by Sarah on 12:22 PM

So I'm just posting because I told myself I would do this more and since the hubby is sleeping in, I figured it's a good time. We had a great Christmas! Just us in the morning opening a few gifts sent in from the families and then we had a couple of kids I babysit over to open their presents (their dad didn't buy a tree or do much at all so I offered) It turned out crazy, all the neighbours and friends of the family were bringing over gifts for the kids, the community dropped off some donations. After everything was set up they probably had 30 things to open between the 2 of them! And they are only 2 years old and 16 months! It was fun though, priceless to watch the baby figure out how it worked. He kept trying to peek in the presents as soon as he ripped a corner up! Once we were done with presents they all left to go have dinner at another families house and we cooked an amazing meal together, grilled ribeye steaks with red peppers, onions, and mushrooms, double stuffed potatoes, green bean casserole, and sweet rolls. I also baked mini-pumpkin pies for dessert. It was lovely and then we just hung out watching Supernatural DVD's. It's pretty much all we've been doing this holiday. We're onto episode 6 of season 2 I think, and it's official.... hubby is OBSESSED now too! This is hilarious to me now for many reasons. I posted way back when that my husband is a freaking clone to Jensen Ackles, and he is well aware of my undying lust for the star and usually acts all grumpy and fake jealous when I talk about Supernatural or JA. He HATES all things not 'logical' so he thinks it's ridiculous that the show is about monsters and he usually points out all the things wrong with the scopes they are using, the way they clear rooms, the way ammo works on the monsters... (he is an incredibly talented soldier in the ARMY that is qualified on most weapons systems) but now we get 5 minutes with nothing to do and he's saying 'put in another episode please' It's adorable and makes me happy. The best part is that I get to sit in wonder about how much the boys I love ARE identical in every way since usually about 3 seconds before Dean makes a remark on the show Casey has said the same thing. Or he makes the same face. It's frightening really but totally awesome. I laugh at the most ridiculous times in the show because of something Casey says or does.. it's brought a whole new level of entertainment to me. I have been reading all your Christmas posts, looks like everyone had a great time and got what they wanted (or hit the after sales to get the things they didn't) I miss living back at home for those. It's hard to get crazy about it when it's all online shopping. Oh well, probably saved us some money! I'm so glad you guys had a nice holiday, we're heading off to the mountains for our 6 month anniversary/ New Year/ finally a honeymoon vacation and I'm soooo excited! Have a wonderful New Year and I'll see ya all in 2008! So it's my big 25th birthday! Woo hoo.. I'm so old, haha! I woke up this morning to a phone call from my parents singing Happy Birthday, they had stayed up really late to make sure the time difference wasn't the middle of our night. Sweet. Then I went back to bed and my husband had a cute little bigfoot teddy bear with a nice lovey card on my nightstand. We got to sleep in really late and then I went and got my hair cut! It is really short compared to the loooooong hair I've had for a while but it looks cute and feels great, nice and light on my neck muscles. She did a nice job of it, it'll be nice as it grows. After the haircut Hubby and I went to the store and found they had just brought in Guitar Hero 3 so we bought it for us and have been playing for 2 hours (we have another guitar from the second version) it's fun to play cooperative career mode! We are probably going to take it over to our friends place later where we are having a little birthday party for me. It beats the tattoo guns the boys usually like to play with on Sat nights while drinking. I'm going to try to rent a karaoke game too for the night, yay birthday! Well that's it for now, I got a nice scrapbook setup and Supernatural Season 2 for my birthday presents, plus the bear. A nice peacoat from my parents. Plus a new look... it's been a great day! Hey all!! Well thanks to the prodding from both Jenah and Destany, I have decided to come out of hiding and start posting about my *exciting* life in Germany. I'm surprised I even have any online friends left but thanks so much for sticking in there people! Updates, well I have my new house here all set up on the ARMY base my husband works at. We lucked out entirely there, most people are having to rent out in the economy right now, there is a such a shortage of housing. I just happened to walk in an hour after a man lost possession of his apartment so I got it! We probably could have had a duplex or a full home to ourselves paid for by the ARMY out in the towns around us but it's worth not having to deal with bills or security gates being on post in our little two bedroom. We also lucked out that a furniture expo was in town the weekend we took possession so we maxed out our new Military credit card (10% off) and got a new living room couch, love seat, and entertainment center, and a new bedroom set all for a very reasonable price! The rest of our furniture is on loan from the base but it matches nicely and my little nest is coming together. I think I even have all the start-up groceries (spices, flour, cleaning products) now and we're down to just feeding us. Here are some pictures of my house and furniture... As for the life here in Germany it's a lot like Canada so I'm used to it. These boys (including my desert born husband) are not! Poor babies, they've been out working in the field so much the past two months I go days without seeing Casey and he's out doing exercises in the snow! I'll have to post some pictures of the beautiful snow covered landscape now too. In the fall it looked like this right behind my house where I went walking everyday.... So now it's time to start thinking Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think we may head to the mountains next weekend for a 2 day getaway since he's been away so much lately so that should be nice. For Christmas he took a nice leave so he can spend the time with me but we're not going anywhere. I bought a tree today and some decorations, fake snow for the windows and tree, white lights for our patio, stockings for our 'first Christmas' even though this is our third (it's new when you're married!!) I've been listening to Christmas tunes all day so far trying to get excited about it. I'm baking pumpkin pies tonight for the boys in the field (mini individual ones), and I've ordered Casey's presents online already. Just trying to get through the last of this week with him gone working by keeping myself distracted. I have a baby shower on Sunday that I'm looking forward to getting to know some more wives. It's a pretty small community, I see the same people all the time but I don't know them yet. Well I guess that's about it. It's been crazy emotional ups and down this past few months, so much happening with one HUGE chapter of my life ending (University and Canada) and an even bigger chapter starting up (Wedding and moving to Europe) I'm doing great, just trying to figure out life again. I sure miss the webby world and my creative work here. Maybe I'll start something up again. I miss you guys!!! I have been checking in on your posts, just haven't been posting my own (bad me). Thanks for thinking of me, let me know what you think of all this new info I've just dumped on you! It won't be so long next time...
